The Global Climate Change Knowledge and Practices of 4-H and Extension Youth Educators

4-H and Extension educators who work with youth are uniquely positioned to help them meaningfully learn about global climate change (GCC) in a way that connects their everyday lives interests. Yet we don’t have baseline understanding of these educators’ knowledge GCC or how they teach it. This paper presents brief findings study intended fill gap knowledge. Educators from six states responded an online survey 2020. varied by topic educator instructional focus, STEM Civic Engagement scoring highest. Questions greenhouse gasses long-term air temperature changes had the lowest number correct answers. Responses open ended questions indicated moderate believed is anthropogenic. Most avoided teaching touched on it briefly. Those did main motivation such instruction benefits youth, followed care for earth. Recommendations professional development, as making opportunities contextualized focus geographic location shared.
